Semester ticket

Our semester ticket consists of two tickets.

On the one hand, there is the regional ticket, which allows you to travel on buses in and around Flensburg, and on the other hand, there is the state-wide semester ticket, which allows you to travel on public transport throughout Schleswig-Holstein as well as Hamburg (Ring A & B).

You can find more information about the local and state-wide semester ticket on the pages of Aktiv-Bus Flensburg and NAH.SH.

How do I order my semester ticket?

You can get your semester ticket in digital form or as a paper ticket.

Information about the different ticket forms and how to order the respective ticket can be found at following site of NAH.SH

Semester ticket and D-Ticket

On 1 May 2023, the nationwide Deutschlandticket was introduced for €49 per month.

Your state-wide semester ticket Schleswig-Holstein is valid as before for journeys on local public transport in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. It is not recognised as a Deutschlandticket.

However, there is the so-called upgrade option, with which you can convert your semester ticket into a Deutschlandticket by only paying the price difference between the semester ticket (or the two semester tickets (local and SH) together) and the Deutschlandticket. The upgrade is optional, so you can decide for yourself whether or not you want to use it in a particular month.

The price of the semester ticket upgrade is €18.49 per month in the current FrSe 23 and €19.33 from HeSe 23/24.

If you have bought a D-Ticket in addition to your semester ticket in May and/or June 2023, you can have the difference (€49.00 - €18.49 = €30.51) reimbursed by us. More on this below in the FAQs.

The upgrade will also be available as a subscription like a D-Ticket and must be cancelled by the 10th of each month if you do not want to use it for the following month.

Carry-on rules in Flensburg (and Glücksburg)

The transport regulation for students of the Flensburg universities (transport of one additional person in the evening from 8 p.m. and on weekends from 6 p.m.) also applies to the semester ticket upgrade to the Deutschlandticket. only in Flensburg and on the Flensburg-Glücksburg line. The following should be noted:

  • Students with a paper ticket should present their Deutschlandticket when they are checked in this area of validity. and the student ID card of the Flensburg university or college together if they want to use the Carpooling Scheme.
  • Students with Handy-Ticket do not need to carry an additional student ID. When using the "Mitnahmeregelung", we ask you to show the third page of the Handy-Ticket when boarding the train at the front or during inspections, because the entitlement to take along an additional person can be directly verified there by the imprint "Upgrade-Ticket zum Semesterticket Schleswig-Holstein / Hochschule XY".

FAQ (to unfold)

General

The Deutschlandticket can be subscribed to at various locations for the current regular price of €49. The upgrade option for the Semesterticket is now available on nah.sh .

The Deutschlandticket is a digital ticket. Alternatively, until the end of this year, paper tickets will be available for a transitional period, which must be printed out independently in DIN-A4 format.

For the upgrade from the Semesterticket to the D-Ticket, you have use the NAH.SH app however, as with the Semesterticket, you can also choose a paper ticket from the month of August.

This varies depending on the transport company from which you buy your Deutschlandticket. NAH.SH recommends ordering the ticket by the 15th of the previous month so that it is available in time for the beginning of the month.

At the same time, an ordered ticket with NAH.SH is usually available within one day.

If you do not wish to use the Deutschlandticket in the following month, you must order the ticket by the 10th of the month of validity in order to cancel it, as it can no longer be cancelled for the following month.

Due to the Deutschlandticket, there are no general, new refund options. The semester ticket is a solidarity model and must continue to be paid by all students. As before, a refund is only possible under certain conditions possible, as well as a Exemption.

For reimbursement for the months of May/June, see below.

As student representatives, we always keep the situation of all students in mind and base our decisions on acting in their interest. For example, we are sticking to the very successful model of a solidarity-financed semester ticket, which ensures affordable and environmentally friendly mobility for all students. The upgrade option ensures that students will at least not be disadvantaged by the introduction of the Deutschlandticket.

Moreover, cancelling the semester ticket is not straightforward: Due to the semester fees collected early at re-registration and their underlying deadlines, this requires a long lead time and should be coordinated with the other participating student bodies in Schleswig-Holstein. From today's perspective, it would not be realistically possible to phase out the semester ticket until the spring semester of 2024 at the earliest.

At the same time, we see that the creation of an individually obtainable Deutschlandticket for €49 per month significantly reduces the attractiveness of the compulsory state-wide semester ticket for around €30 per month. Against this background, we will re-evaluate the necessity and justification for the semester ticket and its price together with the other student bodies in Schleswig-Holstein.

Politicians are striving to make a D-Ticket available to all students nationwide in the medium term, based on the solidarity model. Solutions for this are currently being developed at federal and state level.

We are following the situation closely and will continue to advocate for the interests of all students. Of course, we are keeping all options open.

For information on the "normal" Deutschlandticket, please refer to the information provided by the transport company from which you would like to purchase the ticket, e.g. the FAQ on the Deutschlandticket with NAH.SH.

The Upgrade Ticket is intended to be a temporary solution. Politicians are striving to make a Deutschlandticket available to all students nationwide in the medium term, based on the solidarity model. Solutions for this are currently being developed at federal and state level.

Upgrade option (Semester ticket -> D-Ticket)

Like the Deutschlandticket, the Upgrade ticket is a monthly subscription that can be cancelled during the semester. Since it has to be checked every semester whether the subscription requirements (payment of the semester ticket fee) are met, it automatically expires at the end of the semester and must then be ordered again for the next semester. The upgrade for EUF students therefore always expires on 31 Aug and 28 Feb.

Für das Upgrade muss genau wie beim Semesterticket digital die NAH.SH app verwendet werden, allerdings wird es ab dem Gültigkeitsmonat August auch ein Papierticket zum Ausdrucken geben.

Ordering the upgrade is done in the same way as ordering the semester ticket via the page of NAH.SH On the linked page you will also find all the information from nah.sh about the upgrade.

As with the "normal" Deutschlandticket, the cancellation for the following month must be received by the 10th of the month.

To do this, cancel your existing Deutschlandticket with the issuing transport company as soon as possible (if you order via DB or NAH.SH here). You can then order the Deutschlandticket as an "upgrade subscription" for the following month. Cancellation for the following month must be received by the 10th of the month, so make sure you don't buy two tickets at the same time!

The possibility of creating an upgrade option has been decided since the beginning of February 2023. This left NAH.SH and the transport companies only little time to initiate the necessary procedures, especially since important questions were still not clarified afterwards.
At the same time, the late implementation can be attributed to delays at the service provider DB Vertrieb, which was commissioned with this task and did not manage an earlier implementation of the procedure.

However, for the months of May and June, when the upgrade option was not available, there is the possibility to be refunded the difference to the upgrade price (see below).

Just like the digital semester ticket, the digital Deutschlandticket must be added in the NAH.SH app once and then updates itself automatically as long as the subscription runs.

However, in the NAH.SH app only one ticket can be stored at a time. To insert the Deutschlandticket, any semester ticket must therefore be removed from the app beforehand, and after the Deutschlandticket expires, the "old" semester ticket must be added again with the ticket number and date of birth.

For the months of May and June, in which the upgrade option was not available, there is the possibility to have the difference to the upgrade price in the amount of 30.51 € refunded if you have bought the D-Ticket for the amount of €49..

The Upgrade ticket must be used for all subsequent months - no retroactive refund is possible here.

For the May/June refund, the AStA board has now worked hard to develop a procedure in cooperation with ZIMT that will make the refund quick and easy. As with the refund for the €9 ticket, there is an online application form on the university website, which you have to log into the university intranet to use: https://www.uni-flensburg.de/?id=51135&L=2

Data will already be pre-filled (name, matriculation number and student email address). You then only have to state whether you bought a D-Ticket in May and/or June and upload proof of this. Then enter your IBAN & BIC, tick a few boxes, submit the form, and you're done. We'll take care of the rest.

Please note that you may only submit the application if you have neither received a contribution exemption nor a "regular" refund (e.g. due to a semester abroad) for the current semester.

The form will only be online until 1 July 2023. After that, you can only apply for a refund by e-mail to asta.d-ticket@uni-flensburg.de until 31 July 2023, but then you have to fill in all the details manually and attach all the supporting documents to the e-mail. After 31 July 2023, it is no longer possible to apply for a refund.

Yes and no. Your Semesterticket will be converted into a Deutschlandticket for the period of the upgrade and replaced by it; however, a digital Deutschlandticket must be entered separately into the NAH.SH app . An issued semester ticket will not be withdrawn and will remain valid throughout the semester, especially after cancellation of the upgrade.

However, in the NAH.SH app only one ticket can be stored at a time. To insert the Deutschlandticket, any semester ticket must therefore be removed from the app beforehand, and after the Deutschlandticket expires, the "old" semester ticket must be added again with the ticket number and date of birth.
