Exemption from contributions
Section 74 of the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Education Act stipulates that students can be exempted from the obligation to pay parts of the student body fee under certain conditions. At Europa-Universität Flensburg, the following students can be exempted for social reasons.
An exeptional hardness exists in particular if students:
- enrol at the EUF for the first time ever and move out of a parental home, which is a community of need, first semester students
- re-register and receive social benefits, e.g. citizen’s allowance or benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, either alone or via a community of need
- themselves or their partner receive a child allowance in accordance with § 6a BKGG for their own children living in the same household
- have less income per month for their living costs than the individually applicable rate of need according to § 13 BAföG and have no assets of more than 6,000 euros and 2,300 euros for each of their own children
- are entitled to integration assistance under SGB IX due to a disability and can claim additional needs under SGB II
- receive housing benefit themselves or their partner for the joint household
- are exposed to any other unreasonable burden resulting from the overall circumstances; economic reasons alone are not sufficient in this respect
- doctoral students who are not staying in the Federal Republic of Germany in the respective semester and can credibly demonstrate that the student body fee represents an unreasonable financial burden for them
The following may also be exempted from the contribution
- students who are enrolled at the university in the semester in question as part of a cooperative degree programme, but who spend this semester at the other or partner university, double degrees and trinational degree programmes
Exemption from the semester ticket can be granted to
- students who are entitled to free transport on public transport and are in possession of a valid ID card with a valid token and
- students who are recognised as disabled according to § 228 SGB IX. 2. students who are demonstrably unable to use public transport due to a recognised severe disability
Exemption procedure
Applications for exemption from contributions must be submitted to the AStA within the following deadlines:
- in the case of first enrolment at the EUF, no later than four weeks after the start of lectures First-semester
- in the case of an ongoing study at the EUF, no later than one month before the start of the re-registration period for the coming semester
