Hello everyone,
Many of us spend time at the Schiffbrücke every day — but instead of a relaxed harbor atmosphere, what we currently experience there is exhaust fumes, noise, and unnecessary through traffic.
Now there is a chance to change that, but the city administration is blocking progress.
Although the official public participation process and the Harbor Delegation (with a 14 to 4 vote!) supported a largely car-free Schiffbrücke (Variant 3), the administration is now recommending Variant 1 to local politicians — which essentially means keeping things almost exactly as they are.
Why this concerns us: We are thousands of students living in this city. Flensburg is our home, and we have a right to a modern urban environment and genuine quality of life by the waterfront. If we do not speak up now, the Schiffbrücke will remain a through road for motor vehicles for decades to come.
What you can do (takes 2 minutes): Write a short email to the members of the Committee for Urban Development, Environment and Planning (SUPA). The decision will be made on May 12 — we need to show them that we expect a real mobility transition!

Subject: My Expectations for the Schiffbrücke – Meeting on 12 May
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you as a student at Europa-Universität Flensburg. Flensburg is my home, and I expect a modern university city to prioritize people over motor vehicle traffic in its urban design.
At the upcoming meeting of the Committee for Urban Development, Environment and Planning, you will discuss the traffic situation at the Schiffbrücke. The administration’s current recommendation in favor of Variant 1 ignores both the “Flensburg 2030+” strategy and the clearly expressed will of the public. I ask you: Show courage! Vote against the administration’s recommendation at the upcoming meeting and in favor of Variant 3 (a car-free Schiffbrücke).
Together, let us create more space for quality of life at the harbor.
Yours sincerely,
[Your Name]

Dear fellow students, we really can make a difference here. The politicians at City Hall need to realize that the younger generation is paying attention and will not accept “business as usual.”
